31/05/2012: Unley High School – New WebsiteThursday, May 31, 2012 by Matt Woodward | Taxonomy: Clients, FGSD, Open-Source, Press Release, Software | No Comments
We recently had the pleasure of working with Unley High School (UHS) in Adelaide to provide them with a new website. UHS already had an existing website but lacked an intuitive Content Management System (CMS) to enable them to update the website content as they required.
We were happy to suggest the WordPress platform for them as this Open-Source solution commanded no license fees and could be hosted on their existing internal infrastructure.
As part of the project, Unley asked us to redesign the look and feel of the website to provide a cleaner, brighter website that better reflected the school’s brand.
The school had an established colour palette that we needed to stick to, including the use of the “stripes” from the centenary artwork they’d recently commissioned. FGSD worked with Unley to develop several concept designs which were put to a vote by the School Staff & Council.
We were delighted with the final choice and felt the design the School’s Staff & Council had chosen provided Unley with a modern and fresh design which really set them apart from the crowd.
If you have 5 minutes why not take a look at their site and check out some of the features we’ve implemented, including:
- Content and Image Slideshows (using the jQuery Cycle Plugin)
- News / Announcement Content Feeds (incl. RSS feeds)
- Fully Customisable Navigation (using the WordPress 3.x menu system)
- Page Templates to provision for lists of Sibling / Child Pages as part of content navigation
- Website breadcrumb to aid site navigation
- Website search facility
